Your tyres are the only part of the car which touches the road surface, therefore they are critical.
Tread Depths
The minimum legal tread depth for a car tyre in the UK is 1.6mm across 3/4 of the tyre. However, it is recommended that you change your tyres before this point, at around 3mm. Research performed by ROSPA indicates that stopping distances are increased up to 44.6% on tyres with a tread depth of 1.6mm. You can check the tread depth yourself using a Tyre Depth Gauge or pop into your local branch and we would be happy to do this for you.
Tyre Pressures
Correct Tyre pressure is extremely important as incorrect tyre pressure could lead to premature and uneven wear, compromise vehicle handling and extend braking distances in wet weather. Under-inflated tyres are less efficient and could reduce fuel efficiency. Correct pressures for your own vehicle are listed with your car’s handbook.
Pressure – Result
Too high = Premature wear
Too low = Risk of damage and premature wear
