"Voices from the Wolds" by Lesley Sharpe is part of the HWHG Oral History Project.  In their own words, people describe everyday life in villages of the High Wolds during the 20th century.  These conversations, illuminated by photographs, show vividly the lives of ordinary people and give a unique insight into their experiences in the home, at work and in school.  Two evacuees speak fondly of their early childhood years on farms in the Wolds.

Pauline Foster's book is based on the diary of the Rev Fox, first vicar of St Mary's Church in Thixendale.  Extracts from his diary are illuminated by an interesting commentary about events taking place nationally which affected the life of the people in this remote village in the Wolds.  The Rev Fox also kept detailed records of local weather conditions, which are now kept in the archives of the Meteorological Office.
