Unless stated otherwise, the HWHG requests an entry charge of £3 to go towards fees and hire of the hall. Free entry for children. Entry includes light refreshments.

"Archaeology Without Digging"
James Lyall will show how remote sensing has changed the way we look at the past. James supervises archaeological and geophysical surveys and was part of the team which carried out the largest ever contiguous geophysical survey.

The reports of earlier events are presented in 'Word' but from May 2014, the reports of events will now be presented as '.pdf' You will need Adobe Reader to read these. If you do not already have this on your computer, do a search on 'Adobe free download' for a copy of this software.
2016 - Oct - "Update on the Archaeological Dig at Hanging Grimston" ~ The director of the dig, Marcus Jecock of Historic England, presented an illustrated talk about the second year of the investigative work by members of the High Wolds Heritage Group and of Scarborough Archaeological and Historical Society.
The talk was preceeded by a very brief AGM. Ideas for future events are always welcome.
2016 - June - The launch of David Lunn's second book ~ "Wetwang Saga II" ~ Following the publication of "Wetwang Saga" in 2009, we are delighted that the research has continued, resulting in this magnificent hardback volume. This book begins with the enclosure of the open fields and takes the story, both locally and nationally, to the present day.
2016 - June - A historical walk round Fridaythorpe
2016 - Apr - "Preparing for a Medieval Feast" ~ a talk by Ingrid Barton.
Ingrid described the types of food that would have been eaten, utensils that would have been used and clothes that would have been worn. This talk will also informed the preparations for a feast in Thixendale to commemorate the visit of King Edward I to the village.
2016 - Mar - "A Royal Visit" ~ an illustrated talk by Dr Charles Kightly ~ historian and historical interiors consultant
The talk set the scene for the anniversary of the visit of King Edward I to Thixendale on 23rd April in 1303.

2015 - June - Exhibition at Sledmere House - "Worship on the High Wolds"
2015 - May - An illustrated talk by Dr Peter Halkon - "Recent Research on the Iron Age and Roman Landscapes of the Western Wolds"
Dr Peter Halkon's interesting talk focused on the villages of the High Wolds.
2015 - Apr - "Hands on History" - Experts from Malton Museum brought artefacts for us to handle and examine.
Oct 2014 - AGM - The evening continued with a presentation by Ingrid Barton, who related Yorkshire folk tales. A most enjoyable second part to the evening!
July 2014 - Visit to Ryedale Folk Museum to see the Harrison Collection
28/29 June 2014 – Exhibition - "Life on the Wolds during WW1" - The HWHG was once again invited to present an exhibition as part of the Nostalgia Weekend at Sledmere House. More than 600 people visited our exhibition.
May 2014 - Guided walk by Steve Bence round some ancient sites of The Wolds
April 2014 – A talk by Trevor Boag - "The family - WW1"
Mar 2014 - "The Papers of Sir Mark Sykes" - a talk by Dr David Neave. A fascinating evening. David gave a most interesting talk, illustrated by examples of Sir Mark's writings and cartoon drawings.
Dec 2013 - "Dickens Evening" - Brian Oxberry, of the Malton Dickens Society, presented a fascinating insight into the life and work of Charles Dickens. He then gave a dramatic reading of extracts from 'A Christmas Carol' and 'The Signalman'. The audience was spellbound !
Oct 2013 - Book launch of the HWHG's latest publication - "Voices from the Wolds" by Lesley Sharpe
Oct 2013 - AGM - Ingrid Barton then enlivened the evening by giving a talk about cooking in the past, entitled "Cooking in Roman Times" Everyone enjoyed tasting the food that Ingrid had prepared - delicious!
July 2013 - The private guided walk round Sledmere House and Gardens was most enjoyable, being told interesting anecdotes about the house and family, and given specialist information by both guides.
May 2013 - A guided tour of the recently conserved 17th Century cruck framed farmhouse at Glebe Farm Octon and its environs. Thanks go to David Bull, who took on the duties of the guide at the last moment. A fascinating evening.
May 2013 - Guided walk round Wetwang with David Lunn and Chris Whitfield
Mar 2013 - David Bull gave a really interesting illustrated talk - "Preserving the Past for the Future: Heritage conservation projects in East Yorkshire from Medieval moats to WW2 batteries"
Dec 2012 - A video was made of Chris Whitfield as he talked about Christmas in Wetwang and related other events in the village. He also spoke some poems in the Wolds dialect. A DVD is available of this. (£2.50 +£1 p&p) - contact the HWHG via this website)
Oct 2012 - There was a good turnout for the AGM as it was followed by an illustrated talk by a member of the Yorkshire Wolds Railway Group - "The Yorkshire Wolds Railway - Past, present and Future." The progress which the group has made in developing plans for reinstating some of the Malton-Driffield railway is impressive. A small visitor centre will be sited close to the roundabout between Fimber and Sledmere and the site of the former Fimber station. Also, the group propose to lay a mile-long stretch of track from there towards Wetwang.

Apr 2012 - Yorkshire Film Archives - A most enjoyable evening watching personal films showing life in and around the Wolds. There was a lot of talk - "Oh, I remember that! … I had one of those!"
Nov 2011 - Launch of our new publication - "Huggate Village and Church 1870 - 1900"
Nov 2011 - Launch of our new publication - "The Villages Book" which explores the villages in the High Wolds Heritage Group. £8.95
Each village has a chapter of photographs and there are other chapters about farming, trades and transport, schools, churches and chapels of all the villages.
